The birds are produced by various craftspeople around Harare using industrial waste and scrap metal. It will take several days to construct one bird. They are usually placed outside which will inevitably lead to further rusting - this can be brushed off with a wire brush and a coating of engine oil or WD40 should help with protection.

As each bird is unique in its construction they inevitably all vary slightly. There are over 30 different birds, crocodiles, frogs, baboons, figures from small to extra large.
